Residential

Staffing

Staff

We have a well qualified and experienced residential education staff team, who are integral to the success we have when working with our extremely complex students. There is high staff ratio at all times so that we can focus our attentions on helping our students achieve their targets set out in the individual care / behaviour support plans.

Our staff are very understanding and caring; they are always seeking to provide the highest quality of care taking into account each pupils' individual needs.

Staff work across a 24 hour period with waking night staff night to support the children and young people throughout the night.

All our staff are trained to the minimum of NVQ level 3 ‘Children and Young People’ or the equivalent Diploma. In addition, residential education staff are also trained in behaviour management – ProActSCIPR UK, Child Protection / Safeguarding, Communication (Makaton, PECS, TEACCH) and attend Autism Awareness training.

We are committed to providing our residential staff team with the opportunity to progress in their careers and develop their confidence at skills.

Night Staff

The Governors and staff at Stone Bay School understand that parents and families have many concerns when a young person is admitted to a residential placement at a school. This may be the first time that they have lived apart from their family. Often the greatest concerns expressed are regarding night times.

We would like to assure parents and families that their children are cared for and are safe at night. Both waking and sleeping-in residential education staff are on duty at night. Ratios of staff to students are carefully calculated to keep everyone safe.

Should a pupil be taken ill at night, the senior member of staff on site will be consulted by the night staff member dealing with the young person. They will jointly decide if parents need to be informed immediately or whether parents can be contacted in the morning.

If the student needs to have a GP house call or go to hospital, the senior staff member on site will contact both the parents and the senior member of staff undertaking on-call duties off site. Arrangements will be made which are appropriate for the pupil.

Should parents have any concerns, they will be addressed by the student’s key worker who is in regular contact with the student’s family.
